The Sherman Indian FFA spent the week of Feb. 19, 2024, at the National Date Festival and Indio Fair, showing livestock. For the past six months, students have learned to feed and manage sheep and goats and raise them for market.

Students had to feed their animals daily, work as a team, train their animals to work on a halter, train their goats to walk on a neck chain, train sheep to walk by their hand under the jaw, brace their animals to show off their muscle, shear their animals for show and present their animals to the judge during the fair. Students attended two fairs, with the SoCal Fair being the students’ feeder show and the Indio Fair being the completion of their animal projects.

Their management of these animals demonstrates their hard work and efforts at the Riverside County Junior Livestock Auction held that Saturday. Two members participated in the costume contest, taking third and ninth. One student won champion ewe lamb, and another placed second in her market class and tried out for champion run.
