Health Services

Indian Health Services operates the on-campus primary care and behavioral health clinic, which provides health care services to all students during the school year. These services include general medical care, chronic condition management, behavioral health services, and support for minor illnesses and injuries.

Primary Care Services

  • Clinic hours: Monday through Friday during school hours. Extended hours may be available.
  • Appointments:
    • Students can request same-day appointments through the attendance office during passing periods or free time.
    • Appointment passes will be delivered to students in class.
    • Students must check in with the attendance office before and after clinic visits.
  • Chronic conditions: Students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma) should provide medical documentation and a two-week supply of medications at the start of the school year.
  • Dental and optical services: Not provided on campus. Referrals to local clinics are available, but orthodontic services are not included. Students should complete dental, vision and orthodontic exams before starting school.

Infectious Disease Control

  • If a student is suspected of having an infectious disease:
    • They will be evaluated at a hospital or clinic.
    • Parents/guardians will be notified.
    • Isolation procedures will be followed if necessary, including monitoring every 10 minutes in a designated isolation room.
  • COVID-19 policy: Students testing positive will isolate for at least 10 days and be monitored. Meals will be delivered to isolated students.

Medications

  • All medications (prescription and over-the-counter) must be stored in the dormitory office. Students are not allowed to keep any medication in their rooms.
  • Parents must notify the school if sending medications by mail.
  • If students refuse to take essential medications, they may be sent home or released from school.

Behavioral Health Services

  • Licensed mental health professionals are available for individual, group and family therapy. Students may seek help for a variety of issues, including stress, behavior problems, depression and substance abuse.
  • Parents or guardians can call the clinic directly to discuss concerns about their child.
  • Psychiatric services are available through referrals.

Immunizations and Medical Insurance

  • Required immunizations must be up to date. The COVID-19 vaccine is strongly encouraged.
  • IHS covers students during enrollment, but parents must provide private insurance information if available. IHS will bill insurance for services when applicable.

Medical Isolation and Transportation

  • If medical personnel determine a student should not remain in the dorm, parents will be contacted for pickup. If necessary, staff may transport the student home.
  • Emergency transportation (ambulance, etc.) may be used in urgent situations.
