Library

The Sherman Indian High School Library is open Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, and offers a welcoming space for students to study, explore and engage in various activities. Students may visit the library before and after school or during class time with their teacher’s permission.

Library Resources

The library’s collection includes over 12,000 books and 50 magazine and newspaper titles, offering various genres and topics to suit every interest.

Highlights of the collection include:

Graphic Novels and Comics: This section features titles from Marvel, DC and Archie, along with popular graphic novel series and 25 manga series, with more titles being added.
Native/Indigenous Authors: A dedicated section showcasing works by Native/Indigenous authors.
Professional and Educational Materials: Resources available to support teachers and staff.

Weekly Activities

The SIHS Library is more than just a place for books. It hosts a variety of programs throughout the week to encourage creativity, learning and focus:

Monday – Makerspace: Students can participate in hands-on STEAM activities such as model-building, Lego, slime-making, jewelry-making, and arts and crafts.
Tuesday – Quiet Study: The library is reserved for students seeking a peaceful study environment.
Wednesday to Friday—Regular Services: The library is open for studying, borrowing books and providing other general library services.
Minimum Days: The library closes at lunchtime on all minimum days.

Monthly Events and Themes

The library offers monthly academic enrichment activities to allow students to apply what they’ve learned in fun and engaging ways:

Competitions: Trivia Pictionary challenges and writing contests.
Guest Speakers: Special presentations tied to educational or cultural topics.
Themes: Rotating monthly themes that may be seasonal (e.g., Back-to-School, Halloween), cultural (e.g., Native American Heritage Month, Black History Month), or interest-based (e.g., sports, poetry, hobbies).

Winners of library contests can earn exciting incentives such as snacks, small prizes or off-campus field trips.
